Our Board of Trustees
Alexandra Chapman
Alexandra is our Chair of Trustees. She is the daughter of our founder, Sir Alec Reed CBE. She is also Chair of The Reed Foundation which supports The Big Give, an innovative online fundraising platform that has helped generate millions in charitable giving. She has a MA in Social Anthropology (Cantab) and a MA in Economic and Social Studies. Alexandra has been visiting Ethiopia for over 30 years, seeing the progress made over this time and the challenges our partners continue to face.
Edith Prak
Edith is the Director of Advancement for the University of Nottingham. Her previous roles include Director of Development at the Open University and Deputy Director of the Ashmolean Museum. Edith has had an extensive career in fundraising and international development. A Dutch national, Edith gained her Masters in Economics at the University of Amsterdam. Edith has visited Ethiopia on numerous occasions and visited most of our partners at the time of our 25th anniversary. She was impressed and inspired by the people she met and determined to do her bit in helping our partners thrive.
Alexandra Fenn
Alex has over twenty years’ experience in marketing leadership, including seven on the board of Reed Learning. She has been a trustee of Ethiopiaid since 2007 and has visited many of the Ethiopiaid projects in Addis Ababa seeing for herself the impact Ethiopiaid partners have on the lives of vulnerable people and the opportunities they provide. She has spent the last ten years advising small and medium sized technology businesses with go to market strategy, investment, and acquisition.
Dr Alemayehu Gebreyes
Alemayehu is a consultant haematologist working for the NHS. Before relocating to the UK, he trained and worked as a doctor in Ethiopia. He still has family and friends in Ethiopia and visits the country regularly.
Patrick Reed
Patrick is the grandson of Ethiopiaid’s founder, Sir Alec Reed and so has visited and volunteered in Ethiopia multiple times over the last ten years, more recently fundraising for Ethiopiaid through long distance running. He has a background in science and anthropology with a BA in Human Sciences and an MSc in Human Molecular Genetics and has worked for four years as a commercial strategy consultant in the life sciences space.
Helena Smith
Helena is a solicitor qualified to practise in England and Wales, and currently works within the Group Legal Department providing legal support and representation for the Reed Companies. She has worked in law for eighteen years, covering various areas of practise including civil liberties, human rights and refugee and asylum law.
Vanessa Catterall
Vanessa has been a qualified social worker since 2005 and has worked extensively with children and families in a range of statutory settings. She has held a number of management and leadership roles and has specialised in quality assurance and workforce development. She is an experienced teacher and trainer and has been a tutor for the Open University since 2010. She has a particular interest in challenging inequalities and promoting the rights of others and this led to her interest in Ethiopiaid.
Nicola Bullock
Nicola is a chartered accountant with nearly 20 years’ experience in the international development sector, specialising in audit, risk and assurance. Her interest in Ethiopia began early in her career when she spent several months working with GOAL International in Ethiopia, predominantly in Yabella, Hawassa and West Harage. Working at professional services firms BDO LLP and PKF Littlejohn LLP, she has provided assurance services to a wide portfolio of donors, including ECHO, UNDP, GIZ and others. She has also worked as the Risk Manager at Save the Children International. She is a fellow of the ICAEW.
