Our Board of Trustees
Alexandra is our Chair of Trustees. She is the daughter of our founder, Sir Alec Reed CBE. She is also a trustee of The Reed Foundation which supports The Big Give, an innovative fundraising website that promotes intelligent philanthropy and has helped generate millions in charitable giving. She has a background in documentary filmmaking and has worked as a Director and Producer for the BBC and Century Films. She has a BA in Social Anthropology (Cantab) and a MA in Economic and Social Studies. She is currently training as a humanistic and integrative counsellor.
Edith is the Director of Advancement for the University of Nottingham. Her previous roles include Director of Development at the Open University and Deputy Director of the Ashmolean Museum. Edith has had an extensive career in fundraising and international development. A Dutch national, Edith gained her Masters in Economics at the University of Amsterdam. Edith has visited Ethiopia on numerous occasions and visited most of our partners at the time of our 25th anniversary. She was impressed and inspired by the people she met and determined to do her bit in helping our partners thrive.
Mike is a qualified finance and HR professional and currently works as a freelance consultant. He started working at Ethiopiaid in 1991 when the charity had just been formed. Following two years in still his favourite ever job, he maintained his interest in Ethiopia and eventually joined the Ethiopiaid board of trustees. He enjoys looking at the numbers, the variety of projects supported and in particular how we can continue to grow and improve the spending/investing of our supporters’ money in Ethiopia.
Alex has over twenty years’ experience in marketing leadership, including seven on the board of Reed Learning. She has been a trustee of Ethiopiaid since 2007 and has visited many of the Ethiopiaid projects in Addis Ababa seeing for herself the impact Ethiopiaid partners have on the lives of vulnerable people and the opportunities they provide. She has spent the last ten years advising small and medium sized technology businesses with go to market strategy, investment, and acquisition.
Dr Alemayehu Gebreyes
Alemayehu is a consultant haematologist working for the NHS. Before relocating to the UK, he trained and worked as a doctor in Ethiopia. He still has family and friends in Ethiopia and visits the country regularly.
Vanessa has been a qualified social worker since 2005 and has worked extensively with children and families in a range of statutory settings. She has held a number of management and leadership roles and has specialised in quality assurance and workforce development. She is an experienced teacher and trainer and has been a tutor for the Open University since 2010. She has a particular interest in challenging inequalities and promoting the rights of others and this led to her interest in Ethiopiaid. She enjoys getting involved in voluntary activities and most recently helped build a community garden at her son’s school and has been a barcode scanner for her local parkrun!
Helena is a solicitor qualified to practise in England and Wales, and currently works within the Group Legal Department providing legal support and representation for the Reed Companies. She has worked in law for eighteen years, covering various areas of practise including civil liberties, human rights and refugee and asylum law.
