Maternal Healthcare

Informed decisions in motherhood

Strengthening maternal health services for women across Ethiopia. Preventing and treating childbirth injuries. Helping every woman access the care they need to give birth safely and equipping them to make informed decisions about their own health.

77 midwives’ training costs were contributed to, so that thousands more women in rural communities can access life-saving care.

119 women were cured of obstetric fistula, a devastating childbirth injury, and could rejoin their communities with confidence.

317 pregnant women were supported through midwife home visits, bringing vital care to women who otherwise would have none.

It was mid-February, when a young woman, Selam, went into labour at home in her remote village. After many hours labouring with only her family present

Women and girls

A safer and more equal world

Creating safe, inclusive communities where the voices of women and girls are heard and they are protected from gender-based violence. Preventing cervical cancer and harmful practices such as female genital mutilation (FGM).

5,478 women were screened for cervical cancer, with immediate treatment for those whose results showed potentially harmful cells.

602 babieswere safely delivered by Traditional Birth Attendants and protected from harmful practices such as FGM.
48,943 peoplewere reached through education, to stop harmful practices and advocate for the rights of women and girls.

Emergency and recovery

Together through crisis

Delivering vital relief to people affected by crises. Equipping communities with skills and resources to be more resilient and supporting recovery work. Being there for people who have no one else to turn to.

22 health centres were re-equipped with birthing kits and other vital equipment after the conflict in Tigray.

8,477 people displaced by conflict received life-saving care, including pregnant women, mothers and young children.

583 families’ livelihoods were protected, with emergency food for livestock and veterinary care.

Safiya’s escape to safety

Across Ethiopia, conflict has displaced over 4.6 million people. Many of them mothers with young children, like Safiya and her baby. Safiya fled her home

Health and Wellbeing

Where everyone is welcome

Equal opportunities for children and adults living with disabilities. Preventing and treating neglected tropical diseases. Building inclusive and accessible communities for everyone. Restoring dignity and providing care for older people and people with terminal illnesses. 

2,965 people gained independence thanks to wheelchairs and other mobility aids. 

900 vulnerable children & adults ate breakfast/ lunch daily in a supportive, safe space.

400 terminally ill people were supported with home-based palliative care.

Education

Building better futures

Removing barriers to education, helping keep girls in school, ensuring the next generation of leaders and decision-makers reach their full potential and create long-term change. 

97% of students are now employed after completing vocational training last year.

Over 9,000 girls were given reusable period packs, helping them stay in school.

726 children’s school fees were subsidised by our partner’s school farm project.
