Transforming lives in Ethiopia

You can still be part of Ethiopiaid's BBC Radio 4 Appeal.

Thank you so much to everyone who has kindly donated to and shared our BBC Radio 4 Appeal.

Beloved actor Jenny Agutter OBE, known for her longstanding role in Call the Midwife, presented the appeal on our behalf. She shared the powerful story of how maternal health ambassadors are saving lives in northern Ethiopia, where years of deadly conflict have devastated maternal healthcare.

If you didn’t get the chance to tune in live, the recording is available to listen to on the BBC Radio 4 Appeal website.

Your support is rebuilding maternal care, restocking health centres and restoring these critical services, so women can reach care in time.

It’s not too late to donate and be a part of this very special appeal today.

Your support in action.

How your support
saves lives.

Years of deadly conflict have devastated maternal healthcare in northern Ethiopia. Your support will help rebuild maternal care, restocking health centres and restoring these critical services, so women can reach care in time.

Elilta

When 25-year-old Elilta from northern Ethiopia, was in labour with her first child, she faced emergency complications. But there was nowhere for Elilta to go and no midwife to call. The trauma was too much, and Elilta’s baby died.

Our partners are rebuilding maternal care, restocking health centres and supporting women like Elilta with counselling and training, to become ambassadors.

Safe Motherhood Ambassadors

Ambassadors like Elilta are already saving lives, helping women in rural and conflict-affected areas to reach maternity care. They encourage antenatal checks, spot high-risk pregnancies and ensure women reach care in time.

Life-saving care

It costs £285 to train an ambassador like Elilta, and £50 can help equip her with the kit she needs to reach more women, saving lives.

Thanks to the kindness of generous supporters, donations to this appeal will be matched up to £18,000, making each gift go twice as far.
