Your gift of £200 could cover 80 women's screening appointments, preventing cancer and saving lives.
Cervical cancer is the second most deadly cancer in Ethiopia. In a rural nation,
reaching cancer care is extremely difficult. For people living below the poverty
line, accessing treatment is unaffordable.
Cervical cancer is 99.8% preventable in the UK and yet every year in Ethiopia over 5,000 people die from this disease. A screening costs just £2.50, but sadly, too many women cannot access this care.
With your support, we can reach the women who need it most. Our partner Wings of Healing’s life-saving project tackles critical gaps in cervical cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment across underserved communities.
Will you help reach the women who need it most, before it’s too late?

Alemshet’s story shows just how important this simple screening procedure is.
Alemshet was in her 40s when she noticed abnormal bleeding – an early sign of cervical cancer. Her daughter encouraged her to go to the doctor, who confirmed this diagnosis.
“I had to travel to Addis Ababa to receive treatment, which brought its challenge. My daughter had to leave her school to accompany me.”
The capital city’s Black Lion Hospital, until very recently, was the only centre where radiotherapy was available. For people coming from outside the capital, especially from rural areas, affording transport and accommodation costs is often impossible. Many people have no choice but to sleep on the floor in hospital corridors between treatment.
The waiting time for Alemshet would be a minimum of one year, unless she paid to access treatment in the hospital’s private wing. As the pain became unbearable, she feared the cancer could spread. In desperation to live for her children, Alemshet decided to take out a loan.
“After a week the doctor told me I needed to receive chemotherapy additionally. That was a breaking point, another burden to bear. I started to lose hope.”
The oncologist referred her to our partner Wings of Healing, who, with your support, are helping women struggling with treatment, like Alemshet.
“If I didn’t have this support I was about to stop treatment and give up on my fight. For a mother who has gone through many ups and downs in life, what you did is not just a simple act.”

When Munira’s worst fears were confirmed, she was not alone.

Chaltu’s cervical cancer test was positive: they found potentially harmful precancerous cells.
