These women shouldn't be forgotten.

For women living with an obstetric fistula, very few have the support of family.
Many are abandoned. Rejected. Isolated.
They are left to endure great sadness and hardship alone. I can only imagine what that must feel like.
But there is hope.
A fistula surgery costs £500 and transforms a woman’s life. Help us find these women.

Our impact so far:

349

cured fistula patients trained as Safe Motherhood Ambassadors in 2019.

5,652

women received repair surgery for obstetric fistula and 484 for a pelvic prolapse in 2019.

30,004

safe deliveries by Hamlin midwives in health centres in 2019.

600,000

women's lives changed in Ethiopia thanks to transformational fistula operations since 1959.

170

Hamlin Midwives have now graduated and work in 66 rural Hamlin Midwifery Clinics across Ethiopia since 2007.

332

male family members helped to support fistula survivors' rehabilitations in 2019, due to education and outreach that change perceptions.

The journey to eradicating fistula in the most rural areas of Ethiopia is extremely challenging. The Simien Mountain Mobile Medical Service (SMMMS), a recipient of our Small Grants Programme in 2019 and 2020, are a family-run charity.  Read about their founding and vital work.
At the beginning of the year, we shared with you news of the devastating locust and drought crisis that was sweeping across the Afar region in northern Ethiopia. You responded with immense generosity and kindness. Read our latest update on the situation.
