Mrs. Reed and Family,
On behalf of everyone at Hope Enterprises, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and my wife, Elizabeth Assefa, please accept our deepest condolences on the loss of your spouse, Sir Alec Reed. We are really saddened to hear of the passing of such giant of compassion. May his soul rest in peace.
During this difficult time, we want you to know our prayers and thoughts are with you and your family. Sir Reed’s generosity and ideas to uplift the marginalized and support them up to and including self-support has touched thousands of lives over the last 36 years of uninterrupted support. Of the outreaches of Sir Reed to the poor, the feeding center has continued to be a last resort of survival for thousands of the hungry. Sir Reed’s financing of schools, vocational training programs and the construction of the Hope University College have been tangible sources of hope again enabling thousands of the young to stand on their own. Arising from his support, we have now hundreds of professionals, business people and like him many engaged in humanitarian work. We hope that you find comfort in knowing that Sir Reed’s compassion has touched so many in our growing capital city, Addis Ababa.
To remember his pivotal role in the strengthening of our humanitarian works, we have named a building at Hope University College in his name and we will hold a memorial service to give many of those for whom he stood in their many gaps a chance to reflect on his kindness and express their prayers and thanks.
With heartfelt sympathy,
Minas Hiruy
Chairman of the General Assembly
